AM Merchant Sales Lead
About the Role
The AM Merchant Sales Lead will be responsible for managing and growing relationships with high-value merchants to drive business performance and revenue. This position requires strong relationship management, commercial acumen, and field leadership to ensure continuous merchant activation, retention, and satisfaction across targeted business sectors.
Key Responsibilities
1. Merchant Acquisition and Onboarding

Recruit and onboard high-value merchants (transaction value exceeding TZS 10 million monthly) to M-Pesa and mobile money payment solutions.

Ensure accurate KYC vetting and compliance during onboarding.

Conduct training for newly acquired merchants to enhance service utilization.

Support ongoing merchant operations to ensure active transactions.
2. Relationship Management and Business Growth

Manage an assigned portfolio of merchants, ensuring their operational needs are met.

Build strong, long-term relationships with key accounts to ensure retention and loyalty.

Conduct regular health checks on merchant activity and address issues promptly.

Identify and implement opportunities for cross-selling and product expansion.
3. Planning, Support, and Branding

Coordinate merchant branding and visibility campaigns.

Manage lead generation databases and assign actionable leads to the appropriate teams.

Collaborate with marketing teams to ensure promotional materials are effectively distributed.

Provide feedback from the field to improve merchant experience and operational efficiency.
4. Reporting and Performance Tracking

Prepare weekly and monthly reports detailing merchant performance, growth metrics, and retention rates.

Monitor key business KPIs, including transaction volume, value, and activity levels.

Track and share merchant insights to inform strategic decision-making.
5. Stakeholder Engagement

Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams to support merchant operations.

Maintain open communication with business development, operations, and marketing departments.

Present performance updates and recommendations to management.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Sales, IT, Commerce, or related field.

Minimum 1 year of experience in B2B sales, business development, or financial services.

Proven experience in the telecommunications or mobile money industry is an advantage.

Excellent presentation, communication, and negotiation skills.
