Privacy Specialist ( Data Protection Impact Assessor)

About the Role

The Privacy Specialist will be responsible for conducting and reviewing Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), ensuring compliance with the Tanzania Personal Data Protection Act, 2022 (PDPA) and internal policies. The role will also involve identifying privacy requirements for systems, products, services, suppliers, and third-party engagements to maintain full compliance with applicable laws and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct and review PIAs and DPIAs across products, services, systems, suppliers, and processes.

  • Identify personal data processing activities and assess risks (high, medium, low).

  • Prepare and submit cross-border data transfer applications to the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC).

  • Maintain trackers for PIAs, DPIAs, and transfer permits to ensure up-to-date compliance records.

  • Submit monthly progress reports to the Senior Privacy Specialist.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure timely assessment completion.

  • Perform additional privacy-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Advanced Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, or related field.

  • Experience & Knowledge:

    • Strong understanding of compliance and privacy risk requirements.

    • Experience in privacy risk assessments and/or regulatory compliance.

    • Familiarity with compliance frameworks: ISO/IEC 27001, SOC 2, SOX, ITIL, COBIT, King IV, NIST.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

    • Experience with privacy risk management tools (e.g., OneTrust, Riskonnect) is an added advantage.
