Overview

The Mbeya Cement Production Line and Manpower Handling project is aimed at improving the efficiency, safety, and productivity of cement production and logistics operations at the Mbeya Cement Plant — a subsidiary of the Holcim Group.

This initiative focuses on enhancing critical production processes such as material extraction, handling, loading, and offloading while ensuring optimal workforce management. By integrating skilled manpower, structured workflow systems, and compliance with health and safety standards, this project enables seamless day-to-day operations and long-term operational success.

Key Objectives
  • Optimize cement production and logistics through improved process flow.
  • Ensure efficient and safe loading, offloading, and handling of materials including cement bags, clinker, coal, gypsum, and rice husks.
  • Recruit, train, and manage a reliable and well-coordinated workforce.
  • Streamline operations to reduce downtime and improve output consistency.
  • Enforce strict adherence to occupational health and safety (OHS) protocols.
Scope of Work
The scope of the Mbeya Cement Project includes:
Material Handling Operations:
  • Loading and offloading of cement bags (50kg) to and from trucks.
  • Offloading of raw materials such as clinker, gypsum, coal, and rice husks.
  • Filling cement and pozzolana into 1-ton jumbo bags.
  • Sample collection from incoming trucks for quality control testing.
  • Covering stockpiles during rainy seasons.
  • ANFO mixing for blasting operations.
  • General cleaning of spillages and equipment maintenance areas.
Cement Production Support Services:
  • Operation of cement packers and sandstone crushers.
  • Traffic marshaling for inbound and outbound trucks.
  • Offloading and hoisting of cement bags to mezzanine and mini stores.
Manpower Deployment & Management:
  • Recruitment and training of both skilled (crusher operators, packer operators) and non-skilled labor.
  • Daily supervision, performance tracking, and team motivation strategies.
  • Implementation of a robust Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) framework.
  • Provision of necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) including hard hats, gloves, masks, ear muffs, and protective uniforms.
